Professional Teeth Whitening at Home
I've always had a love and hate relationship with teeth whitening because although I’ve always wanted a perfect smile, I have extremely sensitive teeth. Whitening strips, whitening kits, toothpaste, activated charcoal, mouth wash, coconut oil…. you name it, I’ve tried it. Unfortunately, I always had to stop using products before I even had a chance to see any real results. My dentist told me that I just so happen to be one of those people who naturally have very weak enamel which doesn’t make me a good candidate for whitening products overall.
So when Smile Brilliant contacted me to see if I was interested in trying their At-Home Tooth Whitening System, it of course piqued my interest, but I was skeptical. I am a firm believer of only endorsing products I have tried and swear by, so if that wasn’t going to be the case, I knew I would most likely have to turn down the offer. But before I even had a chance, they asked me was if I had ever tried any other teeth whitening systems before and if I had ever experienced any sensitivity. After telling them about my past experiences and concerns, they told me about their desensitizing gel that was specially formulated for people just like me—I was instantly sold.
The Whitening Kit
Within a few days, Smile Brilliant sent me over their T3 Sensitive Kit that contained everything I needed to get started:
Impression tray
Impression putty (Blue & Grey)
Whitening gel
Desensitizing gel
Step by step instructions
Custom Fitted Trays
The first step to getting your custom fitted trays is to make an impression of your teeth using the impression putty. The kit includes detailed step by step instructions to help you create perfect teeth impressions. It also comes with prepaid envelopes for you to send the molds back to Smile Brilliant. Within a week, I received my custom-fitted whitening trays and I was ready to begin whitening!
Whitening Process:
Smile Brilliant advised me to begin prepping my teeth with the desensitizing gel for 2-3 nights before my first whitening session. I used the desensitizing gel for 30 minutes for the first two nights and on the third night, used the whitening gel for 30 minutes. After the first session, you can actually increase the length of the sessions for up to 2 hours. Desensitizing gel should be applied after every whitening application to reduce/eliminate post whitening sensitivity.
Per their advice, I applied the desensitizing gel for 2 days followed by my first whitening treatment. I felt a slight tingly sensation, but it was nothing unbearable. I kept the trays in for 30 minutes, followed by another desensitizing session. I immediately saw visible results.
So the lighting is definitely different in my bathroom and in my room, but even after only 3 sessions, I saw a noticeable difference. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my teeth this white! I did experience a little bit of sensitivity which quickly went away after a desensitizing session. I decided to alternate days and skip a few whitening sessions in between so that I could desensitize on the off days.
They say on average, most people will need between 7-10 sessions before seeing results, but I was satisfied after only 3. I still have 2 more syringes left and I plan to save them for when I need a touch up! I am so in love with my bright new smile and absolutely love that I finally found a product that works for my sensitive teeth!
