Magical Celery Juice?!

Magical Celery Juice?!

I’m sure if you’ve navigated your way to this blog post, you’ve probably seen videos of my little one-year-old chugging down celery juice. That’s right, CELERY JUICE. I’ve been getting A LOT of questions as to WHY I choose to give her celery juice and WHAT the benefits are, so I thought I’d take some time to clear the air.

For those of you who have been following my motherhood journey, you may already know that I suffer from chronic inflammation in my wrist due to De Quervain’s tenosynovitis. I’ve been struggling with this since Taylor was about 3 months old and after 2 steroid shots, physical therapy and countless acupuncture sessions, I’m right back where I started.  The pain level varies depending on how much I’ve used my wrist, but there will be days when it feels relatively fine one second and even the slightest tweak will leave me in excruciating pain for the next few days. Surgery was the final option my doctor gave me and he told me that even then, I would need at least 3 weeks to let it completely heal, suggesting that I wait until Taylor becomes a bit more independent. In the meantime, I was left to rely on unhealthy amounts of ibuprofin to help ease the pain.

Enter CELERY JUICE. A good friend of mine was raving about how celery juice had helped with her bloating, fatigue and her overall gut problems and suggested I try it to help with the inflammation in my wrist. She advised that I check out Medical Medium’s instagram page and from there I spent the next hour or so reading about all of the amazing healing properties of celery juice. I was so desperate to try anything if it would help relieve some pain in my wrist. If one large cup of celery juice every morning (on an empty stomach) was all it took, I was willing to try it!

I'm no medical expert, but from what I've read...

A FEW BENEFITS OF CELERY JUICE:

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY: Celery is rich in phytonutrient antioxidants that calm inflammation. (My main reason for jumping on the Celery Juice wagon.) Also, inflammation is often a contributing cause of chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, arthritis and many more.

GUT-BOOST: Celery contains important minerals and mineral salts that can help boost digestion, absorption and utilization of the food you eat. Celery juice can help to gradually increase and restore your stomach’s Hydrochloric Acid Levels (stomach acid) that help with indigestion, acid reflux, etc. The juice also has a diuretic effect to help detox the body and reduce bloating.

THYROID CLEANSING: According to Medical Medium, the mineral salts in celery help to fight and cleanse the body of the Epstein-Barr virus, particularly in the thyroid. Celery also contains powerful electrolytes for the nervous system and boosts T3, a hormone in the thyroid.

LIVER DETOXIFICATION: Celery’s detoxifying properties work to remove bad bacteria, fungi, mold, viruses and other toxins from the liver.

NERVOUS SYSTEM SUPPORT: Celery is chock full of nutrients that support the nervous system. It has a calming effect on the nervous system because of its detoxifying properties and provides support through its ability to act as a blood purifier.

After reading hundreds of testimonies, I was sold and it has now been 3 months since I’ve been on celery juice. Taylor would see me drinking my celery juice and ask for some and I was certain she would hate it, ( the girl doesn’t even like milk) but surprisingly she loves it! The juice actually tastes much better than it sounds or smells. Celery has a strong scent that can turn people off, but the juice itself is very crisp  and refreshing, especially when served cold. (Granted, if you dislike Celery, you may disagree).

This is not a diet or a type of juice plan, but simply the act of drinking a glass of celery juice each morning to start my day.  I still have chronic pain in my wrist, but I can definitely tell the difference in pain levels on days when I drink my juice and on days that I've skipped. Another perk I've noticed is that I do feel less bloated and more energized throughout the day👍🏻

HOW TO MAKE CELERY JUICE: This is 100% pure celery juice with nothing added or diluted. Celery is definitely a great addition to other juices, but according to Medical Medium, you can see optimal results when you drink pure celery juice on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning.

Carefully wash and trim one stalk of celery the night before (this way it’s cold and ready for the next day).  In the morning, run each rib through your juicer. (Yields about 16-24oz) I prefer to strain the juice one time before because my juicer isn’t the best at getting out all the stringy pulp, but totally a personal preference.  Drink immediately on an EMPTY stomach.  Wait 15-20 minutes before consuming other food or drink.

This post is in no way meant to endorse or promote celery juicing, but just to explain why I choose to drink it & also to explain why Taylor has been drinking it so regularly :) It seemed fitting because It’s definitely great if you are looking to detox and get a jump start the new year!

Would love to hear if any of you try it!!

WISHING ALL OF YOU & YOUR LOVED ONES A VERY HAPPY & HEALTHY NEW YEAR!

xoxo,

Su & Tay Tay
